The Policy Committee will consider changes this fall with the board affirming or denying those proposals this winter.
Minnesota's 2026 legislative session begins February 17, with Minnesota Milk's Annual Meeting February 24 and Dairy Day at the Capitol on February 25. Email any suggestions for policy to Lucas@MNMilk.org, call Lucas at 320-429-4838, or talk to any Minnesota Milk board member by November 1.
Grants available to improve safety on Minnesota farms

In recognition of National Farm Safety and Health Week, Sept. 21-27, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is announcing that farmers can apply for funding through two key safety programs: the Grain Storage Facility Safety Grant and the Rollover Protective Structure (ROPS) Rebate Program. These programs help farmers add critical safety equipment to on-farm grain storage facilities and retrofit older tractors with lifesaving rollover protection.
The AGRI Livestock Investment Grant encourages long-term industry development for Minnesota livestock farmers and ranchers by helping them improve, update, and modernize their livestock operation infrastructure and equipment.
Applications are due by 4 p.m. CT on Thursday, November 13, 2025.

New World Screwworm found 70 miles from southern border

On Sept. 21, Mexico’s National Service of Agro-Alimentary Health, Safety and Quality (SENASICA) confirmed a new case of New World screwworm (NWS) in Sabinas Hidalgo, located in the state of Nuevo León, less than 70 miles from the U.S.-Mexico border.
Midwestern dairy businesses can prepare now to apply for a total of approximately $3 million across two direct-to-business grant programs offered by the Dairy Business Innovation Alliance (DBIA), opened August 4. The funding will be available to small- to medium-sized dairy farmers, manufacturers, and processors in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
Update released on six-state study of on-farm soil health, water, manure

The Dairy Soil & Water Regeneration project team has released their latest progress update. Fifty-two dairy farms in Wisconsin were among dozens from across the U.S. that participated in an early phase of the eight-year project, which was initiated by Dairy Management Inc. and is in its fifth year. UW-Madison and UW-Platteville are among eight institutions now conducting field trials on research farms and commercial dairies.
